21 Day Fix: One Week Down!

Hey Guys! Well, I’m one week into the 21 Day Fix program and I am LOVING it! I can’t believe I’m even saying this, but I’ve already lost 5 pounds! I haven’t taken all of my body measurements but I did measure my thighs and stomach and I’ve lost 1 inch around each. OMG. Heck yeah! Never have I seen such quick results from anything.  I had some pretty drastic results from running but that was over a long period of time… this is ONE WEEK.  I can visibly tell a difference in my stomach.

Keep in mind… I have never tried a DVD workout program in my life.  And I have never used a Beachbody product either.

So far I’ve been good and stuck to the plan. The hardest thing for me I think is the VERY limited amount of wine! Haha.  After a long day in the office and then coming home to being a mommy until 9:30pm… I so desperately need that glass of wine some nights! On the plan, you can sub out one of your yellow containers for a 4-ounce glass of wine three days per week.

So needless to say, I used all three opportunities! 🙂 Ha.  I bought the little mini bottles of merlot, which has 6oz… so I even splurged a little and enjoyed 2 extra ounces. Oh well! I figure if that’s the worst thing I do during these 21 days, I’ll still be doing pretty good!

I’m getting the hang of the meal plan and figuring out how to add a little interest to my plate.  I am not the type that can live on bland chicken breasts for lunch and dinner every single day.  I made spaghetti squash with marinara sauce the other night. Yum! Added some fresh green beans and (sigh) some chicken… because I needed SOME type of protein and that’s what I had on hand.  TIP: Don’t undercook the spaghetti squash.  It had a crunchy texture to it. Yuck! For lunch the next day, I added some water to the dish and microwaved it for about 10 minutes to finish cooking it and soften it up a bit. Much better!


So anywho, just wanted to give you a little update of my super exciting progress so far!  Can’t wait to post my final results in two weeks!!

A little about my workout/fitness story… I had my son two years ago, before that I worked out occasionally but never really stuck to anything long term.

I gained a whopping 55 pounds when I was pregnant. Gulp.  Yep, this was me the morning my son was born.  Now THAT is a belly!

When my son was 10 months old (January 2013) I joined a 12-week running program to run my first 5k! Heck yeah! This was huge for me. Because seriously, I. Hated. Running. Always have. The program started out VERY easy, walk a minute/run a minute, etc. And that was even tough! But any who, I ran my first 5k three months later! After that I did a few other running groups where I worked on my speed and distance. Around May of 2013, I started seeing a personal trainer twice a week.

Fast forward to year later (January 2014) I decided it was time to run my first HALF MARATHON! Holy cow! I trained hard for 16 long weeks and finished my first half in 2 hrs 28min. My goal was 2:30, so yeah!!!

After I accomplished my half marathon goal, I was a tad bit burnt out. I decided to take a little break to just slow down and enjoy summer with my family. Well, my race was April 26 and here it is July 9th and I still haven’t run once. I’ve been working out with my trainer once a week, but that’s about it. Not to mention I’ve gone totally awol with my diet – one big free for all, eat whatever I want! I can tell it… and so can my clothes.

So this is where the 21 Day Fix comes in. I saw some of the AMAZING results people were getting and I mean, it’s only 21 days. I can do anything for 21 days! The gist of the program is this: super healthy foods in the proper portions and working out for 30 minutes 7 days a week for 21 days straight. You get these little food containers in different colors that each represent a different food group. You get so many containers per day depending on what your calorie range is and you can fill those little containers up with good foods. I registered for my next half marathon November 1 and training begins August 4, so I figured this would be the perfect get-myself-back-in-shape-quickly program.

I started the 21 Day Fix this Monday, July 7 so I am three days into it. I’ve only done three workouts – total body cardio, upper fix and lower fix – and I am SO sore! ha! The food containers have been amazing to help remind myself what healthy food is and the amounts I should be eating. So far, I’ve stuck exactly to the program – except for one bite of my son’s banana pudding the other night. oops! And I’m not gonna lie, my coworker had some french fries for lunch yesterday and it took all I had in me not to walk by and steal a few off his desk. 🙂 But I didn’t!

To give you an idea, my diet has looked a little something like this:

Breakfast: Plain greek yogurt with a teaspoon of honey and a teaspoon of granola
Snack: Mixed berries
Lunch: Grilled chicken, asparagus, quinoa
Snack: Cucumbers and almonds
Dinner: Grilled bell peppers and onions with a chicken breast and black beans

Meet: Influenster

So a few weeks ago a friend of mine mentioned that she got a FREE box of goodies… sunscreen, lipgloss… yes, for FREE! Being the bargain hunter that I am, I was immediately intrigued. She explained that it was a program called Influenster that sends out free items to people who have large social networks and will review the products. So, needless to say – I signed up that night! I immediately went to work unlocking badges, linking up my social networks, reviewing products… all to get that Influenster rating up! Apparently the higher your rating, the more likely you are to qualify for a VoxBox.  It hasn’t been long at all but I am anxiously awaiting that first box! I got an email the other day letting me know that I was qualified to possibly receive one soon.  Guess we shall see!  Stay tuned friends… I’ll be sharing the fabulousness of that VoxBox as soon as I get one!  In the meantime, go check them out! Hello World!

So this is where I tell you a little about me… where do I start?!?  I am a ridiculously-busy full-time working mom.   I have the most adorable two year old in the entire world… yes, that is a fact. 😉  I am a digital project manager for an awesome advertising agency.  I have an amazing husband (of 8 years!), family and the so many best friends that I couldn’t imagine picking one! I guess I can say I am pretty dang blessed, even though life gets crazy and I sometimes forget that.
